We
have B99 on road and off road diesel. The B99 is available only during business
hours. For questions about B99 please see the biodiesel FAQ page or give us a
call and we would be more than happy to answer your questions.
We also have B20 on road diesel which is a
blend of 20% biodiesel with 80% ultra low sulfur diesel. The blend reduces
emissions including carbon dioxide and particulates. It adds cetane to petroleum
diesel which promotes easier starting and quieter running. It also improves
lubricity. B20 does not require equipment modifications to use.
We like the possibilities of biodiesel.
 |
It can be domestically produced |
 |
It is renewable |
 |
It provides a positive return on energy
inputs of roughly 3.2:1 |
 |
It is biodegradable and degrades more
rapidly than sugar. |
There are a few drawbacks that make the fuel
less than perfect.
A gallon of biodiesel contains about 8% less energy than a
gallon of petroleum diesel. In the
real world this is not significant because biodiesel has some other attributes
(oxygen/lubricity) that offset much of this deficit.
There
is legitimate concern about the conversion of forests to cropland and also the
tension between producing fuel or food. We think that sound policy can encourage
the right choices.
On
balance we think biodiesel represents a significant step in the right direction.
With each passing year our experience as well as that of our customers
confirms this.
